Outpatients were randomly sampled and surveyed to assess veterans' perceptions of their health care in VA clinics in New York City and Ann Arbor, Michigan in the year following September 11, 2001. The study was designed to assess the effect of close proximity to the 9/11 disaster on perceptions of health, health services access, and satisfaction with care, among veterans who sought care for symptoms related to 9/11 and those who did not. Demographic characteristics and psychiatric symptoms of PTSD were measured as covariates.

SWIFT-IVI-2020 (10/2021-09/2022, R Kinney - PI) "Massachusetts veterans’ utilization of urgent care services after implementation of the MISSION Act." $67,794. The goal is to use mixed methods to examine the role of chronic conditions in urgent care utilization since the implementation of the VA MISSION Act, comparing VHA-provided emergency and urgent care to community-provided emergency and urgent care. Role: Co-investigator (5% effort)

VHA OMHSP Demonstration Project (10/2022-03/2024, M Bollinger - PI) "The Community Context of Suicidal Behavior." $572,395. This demonstration project is funded by the Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. The project will conduct a nationwide, multi-year, multi-level examination of factors influencing suicide behavior among Veterans. It will characterize community-level social determinants of Veteran suicidal behavior while also examining the impact of community-based suicide prevention interventions on long- and short-term suicide-related outcomes (ideation; behavior; completion). Role: Co-investigator (25% effort)

FUNDING AWARDED BUT NOT DISTRIBUTED:

VA HSR&D QUERI RISOME 15-014 (04/2015-03/2017; L A Copeland - PI). "Identifying Specific Non-VHA Healthcare with the Mental Health Research Network." $131,608. Determine overlap of VA patients with HMORN member institutions per insurance data in the VHA's Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW). Role: Principal Investigator (20% effort)
